The more absurd elements such as the lady in the wig, or the main male characters being cops, from what I recall, were formed with a bit of real world context and quite honesty, could've been replaced by any other type of character admidst the setting of Hong Kong during that time. It's a slice of life anime condensed into an hour and a half.

The characters dont develop like a traditional plot would, they simply just live and react to what gets thrown at them no matter how strange the situation may be. How could I possibly experience something so different from so many peopleįor me, what it does exceptionally well is capturing the feeling of someone in their 20s or 30s just living life in a metropolitan city, working, indulging in vices and at some point genuinely feeling a little romantically lonely. Is there anyone else that wasn't blown away by this? Because I really feel like I'm losing my mind right now.
#Chungking express characters movie
Maybe I need to go to film school or something but these weren't as world-shattering as people act like.like maybe at the time it was revolutionary but it's 2020 and slow motioni ain't that cool anymore, a lot of the movie really just looked like a 90s music video. Ok, well maybe those aren't things people praise about it? I saw a lot of people saying it's less about the story and more about the filmmaking aspects. The second story is even worse, this girl is a complete psycho who breaks into the guy's house every day and drugs him and I'm supposed to think that's.cute? A realistic depiction of love? Relatable? Uh. The first half isn't even a love story, it's just this dude randomly fixating on a girl he knows nothing about, then meeting her in a bar one night, ignoring her requests to leave her alone, and eating salad while she sleeps.that's not romantic.

The movie is so lacking in plot that even the title is more related to the director's life than the movie.Īnd then I see all these people talking about how charming and romantic it is and I'm riously wondering if I'm having a psychotic episode and imagining all of this or something.

The second one feels overdrawn and like it takes forever to get to a predictable point. The first one is much more interesting but it's way shorter. Structurally its a mess, it's two different random stories slapped together that are completely uneven.
